What to Expect in College or Training
Listen to stories from Youth in Care and learn from their firsthand experiences and personal journeys.
Youth in Care, commonly known as Foster Care, refers to individuals who are or have been under the supervision of local Departments of Social Services or Child Welfare Agencies. This group includes those who may have lived with foster parents, relative caregivers (kinship care), or in group homes or residential treatment centers.
If you were in foster care at the age of 13 or older, be sure to answer “yes” when asked on the FAFSA and TAP application. Doing so may provide you with additional support and resources and increase your access to financial aid.
The Youth in Progress: Need To Know (NKT) series addresses some of the most important topics and questions you may have while in foster care, such as planning for college. Unlike other resources, the NTK series was created in collaboration with youth who have been in foster care. This means it offers real, practical advice from people who have been through many of the same experiences.
