Juniors preparing for college should plan to ramp up their efforts to start looking for a college or university to attend.

This is your opportunity to start deciding which college you'll attend and what it takes to get there.

  • Register for and take the PSAT and/or the PLAN which is given in October.
  • Start researching colleges and consider all the types of colleges.
  • Attend college fairs.
  • Learn about financial aid basics by attending a financial aid night at your school.
  • Start a college application file. Keep all your papers organized and at your fingertips.
  • Start a list of deadlines for both admission and financial aid.
  • Explore careers and their earning potentials in the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
  • Start researching federal and New York State grants and scholarships to learn what you may qualify for and how to apply for financial aid.

  • Register for and take the SAT and SAT Subject Tests or the ACT.
  • Register for your FSA ID
  • Attend a financial aid workshop or seminar.
  • Prepare for NYS Regents exams with Regents Review 2.0.
  • Decide which standardized test you will take and how to best prepare. 
  • Find out about college-prep summer programs and explore opportunities for summer internships.
  • Review your senior class year schedule with your school counselor.
  • Narrow down your college list. Make sure to include deadlines and documents needed at each college for Admission and Financial Aid.
