Part-Time Scholarship

Students attending a SUNY or CUNY community college can receive an award that covers up to the cost of six credit hours per term.

  • Covers the cost of up to 6 credits or $1,500 per term whichever is less

  • Available to students taking six to eleven credits per semester

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree at a SUNY or CUNY Community college

  • Be a resident of NYS and have resided in NYS for 12 continuous months prior to enrolling or qualified under NYS-DREAM Act

Award

Amount

Recipients are selected based on financial need and available funds.   

 

Frequency

Annual

Must complete the FAFSA and TAP application or DREAM Act application each year for payment.

Duration

Up to four consecutive academic semesters. 

If you do not maintain continuous enrollment, you will not qualify to receive the award for the semesters during which you are not enrolled. Any semesters during which you are not enrolled will still be counted against the four academic semesters of eligibility.  

Amount

Up to six credit hours or $1,500 per term, whichever is less.

Any award payment received may have tax implications. Please direct any questions to a tax professional, the Internal Revenue Service, or the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance.

Undocumented and other immigrant students: before submitting your application material, apply for eligibility under the NYS DREAM Act.

To receive the Scholarship, you must meet the following residency requirements: 

  • You are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • You are a legal resident of New York State and have resided in New York State for 12 continuous months.

High School, GED, or Ability to Benefit

  • Graduated from high school in the United States, earned a high school equivalency diploma (GED), or passed a federally approved "Ability to Benefit" test.

College & Program

Once in college, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Attend a SUNY or CUNY community college. 
  • Enrolled in a degree-granting program of study. 
  • Enrolled part-time in six to eleven credits applicable toward their degree program per semester. 
  • In good academic standing.  
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

There are no income limits for this Scholarship.

Financial Status

To receive the Scholarship, you must:

  • Be in good standing (a non-default status) on a student loan made under any NYS or federal education loan program or on the repayment of any NYS award.
  • Be in compliance with the terms of the service condition(s) imposed by any NYS award that you have previously received.
