Dear Colleague,
This bulletin describes an important reminder about the income verification program (IVP). Applicants whose income could not be verified for the 2025-26 academic year are required to submit documentation so HESC can complete the income verification process.
What Students Need to Do
Beginning tomorrow, HESC will send a communication to 2025-26 applicants whose income could not be verified, explaining how to submit acceptable income documentation and the following information:
- 30-Day Deadline: Applicants must submit the acceptable documentation within 30 days to resolve their outstanding income verification.
- Application Withdrawal: If an applicant takes no action within this period, their 2025-26 TAP application will be withdrawn.
- Reinstatement Window: For students who took no action, HESC will send a follow-up notice confirming the withdrawal of their application. These applicants will then have a final 60 days to reinstate their 2025-26 application by submitting acceptable documentation so HESC can verify their income.
Acceptable Documentation
Financial aid counselors may advise students on the required acceptable documentation. Students must upload one of the following documents to their HESC account by the applicable deadline:
- IRS Tax Return Transcript
- IRS Verification of Non-Filing
- IRS Wage & Income Transcript
- Certified copy of their New York State tax return. Instructions on how to get a copy of your return.
Students should refer to the Instructions for Uploading Documentation to ensure their documentation is submitted correctly by the required deadline.
