Yes. For financial aid purposes, all courses that make up a student’s minimum full-time course load must be applicable to the student’s program of study as a general education requirement, major requirement, or elective. The Regulations of the NYS Commissioner of Education define full-time and part-time study and specify that the courses must be “an integral part of the student’s program.”

  • There is an exception in the student’s final year of study.  In the students second to last term, the student must enroll in 12 credits but only 6 credits need to be in the program of study.  In the final term, the student needs to be enrolled in 12 credits but only one course needs to be in their program of study.
