NYS students can apply for Financial Aid through the FAFSA, the NYS DREAM Act, or an alternate eligibility pathway. This alternate path is not a financial aid program but offers an eligible students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who do not want to complete a FAFSA due to concerns related to privacy of their information a way to apply for New York State financial aid. 

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for NYS student financial aid through this path, you must meet one of the following citizenship/immigration status requirements: 

  • U.S. citizen 
  • Permanent resident alien 
  • T visa 
  • Designation of "Victim of human trafficking”
  • Refugee
  • Asylum Granted 
  • Parolee
  • Cuban-Haitian Entrant 
  • Resident of the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia
  • Canadian-born Native American under terms of the Jay Treaty
